Ceiling Bike Lift

My bike has been in storage all year. How can I make it ride-worthy again?

I usually only ride my bike during the summer and it's just been sitting in my house all year. I know I need to fill up the tires with air, but are there any other things I should check on before I start riding it again? It hasn't been used for a REALLY long time..

  1. If it's a Bicycle, go through and check for any loose screws and bolts. Then take a can of 3-in1 oil and lube all the moving parts. Especially the chain and the wheels.
  2. Check the tire sidewalls for cracks. Replace if badly cracked. Check the brake pads to make sure the aren't hard. Replace them if hard as they won't stop the bike well. Wiggle (that's a real technical term;) the wheels to check for play. Grab the brakes and wiggle the bike front to back and see if there is a play in the headset. You can use a quality oil, especially one of high viscosity meaning it's thick. Lube the chain lightly. Too much oil will attract dirt. If you have any doubts, take the bike to a good local bike shop. Shop around and get some quotes as to how much they charge.
  3. make sure the breaks and the gears still work check the tires psi front and rear use 90 weight gear oil on the chain and put fresh grease in the bearings. This will ensure your bike will be fit and ready for the summer. Good luck!
