Can you recover excess and storage costs when your scooter has been stolen, damaged and recovered?
Recovery was made by the police who told me they had sent it to this garage and had to wait for it to dry out before they did forensics, may be a few days because it happened on friday...then was told recovery cost is £150 + £25 every day it is there. Then my insurance company will take it and I will have to pay them £550 excess. I would have gone and got the bike myself if I knew. I only have third party fire and theft insurance.

- No, the police storage costs are on top of any excess. You'll have to pay the lot.
- Unfortunately this would have to be recovered from the person that stole the scooter. Too late now but a lesson to all that fully comp and legal protection are a good thing. If the Police are holding it for forensic reasons, thus preventing you from reclaiming it then for that period of time they cannot charge you for storage so argue it with them and you should get a lot knocked off.
- If you are Fully Comp, your insurer has to pay. However if you are TPFT you will have to pay it.
